The 2nd AIWW Kick-off Meeting was successfully held on July 10, 2018 with the support of the AWC members, by convening more than one hundred governmental officials, local authorities, international and non- governmental organizations, multilateral development banks (MDBs), water experts and scholars from civil society. The Kick-off Meeting was opened by the President of AWC, Dr. Hak-soo Lee and congratulatory remarks were delivered by the Minister of Environment of Korea, Secretary-General of the Office of National Water Resources of Thailand, and the President of Indonesia Water Institute.
During the Kick-off Meeting, the publishing ceremony of the 1st AIWW White Paper was held to commemorate the achievement of the 1st AIWW and reflect the impacts and outcomes of the 1st AIWW on enhancing water security in the Asia region. Following a group photo session, the Memorandum of Agreement between AWC and the Ministry of Public Works and Housing of Indonesia(MPWH) was signed to specify each party’s responsibilities for organizing the 2nd AIWW as the co-conveners. Dr. Lee extended his gratitude for the AWC members to join the commencement of the 2nd AIWW preparatory process, and also encouraged their fullest support to the 2nd AIWW.
Participants at the 2nd AIWW Kick-off Meeting appreciated the beauty of Indonesia through the traditional dance performance, which heightened the participants’ interest in visiting Yogyakarta, the host city of the 2nd AIWW. After watching the video message from Dr. Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of Public Works and Housing of Indonesia, the history and cultural heritage of Yogyakarta were presented by Dr. Firdaus Ali, Vice President of AWC.
